Due to his excellent political record, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil got the opportunity to become a minister in many governments. He was the Minister of Education and Transport in the Ashok Chavan government and then handled the Agriculture and Marketing Ministry in the Prithviraj government. At present, he is handling the residential ministry in the Fadnavis government.
MLA from Shirdi seat for 5 consecutive times
Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil is an MLA from Shirdi assembly seat since 1995 and has won the assembly elections for 5 consecutive times. Radhakrishna Vikhe has contested from Shirdi assembly seat on Shiv Sena and Congress ticket. But this time he will try his luck in the assembly elections on BJP ticket.
In the year 1999, he defeated the NCP candidate as a Shiv Sena candidate. But after that in the year 2004 again won the election on Congress ticket. Then won the assembly elections of 2009 and 2014 also. In June this year, he said goodbye to the Congress and held the lotus of the BJP.
Patil was Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly
Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil was the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, but this year he surprised everyone by leaving the Congress. On joining the BJP, he was welcomed with the portfolio of the Cabinet Ministry. Vikhe Patil got the housing ministry in Fadnavis’s cabinet.
Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil was born on 15 June 1959 in Shirdi. His father Balasaheb Vikhe Patil has been a senior politician. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil has also been the Finance Minister in the Central Government.
Father-son left Congress
Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil had resigned from the post of Congress Legislature Party leader during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After this he also resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition. Actually, the big reason for this is believed to be that Radhakrishna Patil was seeking Lok Sabha ticket for his son Sujay Vikhe Patil from Ahmednagar seat. But this seat went to the account of NCP under the distribution. Radhakrishna Patil had also appealed to the Congress that instead of this seat, NCP should be given some other seat. He even requested NCP Chief Sharad Pawar to end the ongoing political rivalry between the two families and make a new beginning. But it is said that Sharad Pawar did not agree. As a result, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil had made up his mind to leave the party after getting disappointed instead of a ticket from the central leadership of the Congress.
First, Sujay Vikhe Patil left the Congress and won the election of MP from Ahmednagar on a BJP ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Later Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil also resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition and left the Congress.
Vikhe Patil is the BJP candidate from Shirdi.
Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil’s son Sujay Vikhe Patil is a BJP MP from Ahmednagar seat. Sujay Vikhe Patil is a Neuro Surgeon by profession.
Now Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil will contest from Shirdi assembly seat on BJP ticket. However, the seat sharing formula between the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance also got screwed in Shirdi seat as Shiv Sena did not want to give up its claim from this seat. But due to Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil’s five-time victory record, BJP was able to stake claim on this seat. Now it is to be seen whether Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil can maintain his winning record on BJP ticket or not. By the way, Congress and NCP do not have any big face from Shirdi in the competition of Vikhe Patil. This is the reason why Vikhe Patil, who was the trump card of Congress’s victory till yesterday, has now become a challenge for the Congress itself.
