became a minister by winning the independent election
Harshvardhan Patil is one of those leaders who have been ministers in the government for 4 consecutive times. He was a minister in the Shiv Sena-BJP government from 1995 to 1999 and later was a minister in the Congress-NCP government from 1999 to 2014.
Harshvardhan Patil started his political innings in the year 1995. He was elected as an independent MLA from Indapur seat of Pune. Won the election of MLA 4 times from Indapur seat. He was an independent MLA till 1995, 1999 and 2004, while after joining the Congress in 2009, he became an MLA on a Congress ticket for the first time. After which he was made the cooperative minister in the Congress government of Maharashtra.
First defeat in the year 2014
Harshvardhan Patil had to face defeat in the 2014 assembly elections. Actually Congress and NCP fought this election separately. Harshvardhan Patil lost this election to Dattatreya Bharane of NCP by a margin of 14,173 votes. He had to face defeat from the NCP candidate in the Indapur seat under the Baramati Lok Sabha seat.
Harshvardhan Shah Patil was born on 21 August 1963 in Bawada, Indapur. He is the nephew of former MP Shankar Rao Bajirao Patil. Harshvardhan Patil is married to Bhagyashree. They have a daughter Ankita and a son Rajvardhan. His daughter Ankita is a member of the Pune Zilla Parishad.
After the defeat of 2014, Harshvardhan Patil in Maharashtra Congress spent time in silence for five years. After the resignation of Ashok Chavan, there was also talk of becoming his president, but made Balasaheb Thorat the president of Maharashtra Congress. After which Harshvardhan Patil left the Congress again on 9 September and joined BJP on 11 September in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. CM Fadnavis himself said for Harshvardhan Patil that he was waiting for him to join BJP for five years.
The joining of Harshvardhan Patil to the BJP was the second major setback for the Congress. Before Harsh Vardhan, the second senior Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil had left the Congress after the Lok Sabha elections and was made a cabinet minister in the Fadnavis government.
Indapur seat has become a question of respect
Once again Harshvardhan Patil is in the electoral fray from Indapur seat. Indapur assembly seat comes in Pune district. After losing the 2014 elections, he would like to come back after winning. Till now, he continued to win the Indapur seat from 1995 to 2009 on an independent and Congress ticket. In such a situation, this time in the assembly elections, everyone’s eyes are on Harshvardhan Patil and Indapur seat, why for the first time he will be the candidate of BJP, as well as the question of respect related to Indapur seat, which was hurt by the defeat in the year 2014.
