Texas. At least 10 migrants in the US were killed when a van crashed on a highway in South Texas on Wednesday. 20 others have been injured. There were more people in the van than its capacity. Officials said the accident happened at about 4 p.m. Wednesday on route number US281 in Encino, Texas.
Sergeant Nathan Brandley of the Texas Department of Public Safety said the van had only 15 passengers, but almost twice the number of passengers. The driver was driving the van at high speed. He lost control of the vehicle and hit a pole. The driver has also died in the accident.
Brandley said the death toll was initially reported to be 11 but was later revised upwards. The condition of all the 20 people injured in the accident is critical. The identity of the 30 people in the van will be made only after their relatives are informed.
No immediate information was given regarding the area in which the van was registered and who owns it. (with agency input)
