Became CM at the age of 47
Fadnavis’s tough test period had begun from the very day he rose to the top in Maharashtra’s power by representing the Brahmin class among the Maratha contenders. BJP won the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections with a huge majority. After the victory, the announcement of the name of Devendra Fadnavis for the post of Chief Minister was the biggest surprise. At the age of 47, Devendra Fadnavis had the distinction of becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Before him, only NCP President Sharad Pawar has been such a person who became CM at a young age.
impeccable political journey
The only reason for the party’s strong faith in Devendra Fadnavis was his impeccable and youthful political journey. The association with the Sangh was inherited which made him a very disciplined worker and the initiation of the Sangh proved to be the lifeblood of his political life. But before the important responsibility of the post of CM, he had gained experience as the responsibility of the BJP President of the state. He was considered close to the late Gopinath Munde and it was only with his support that this position was achieved. After the untimely demise of Gopinath Munde, Devendra Fadnavis worked to fill that void and with his political skills, he managed to woo the opponents. After which the path of his becoming CM was decided by the acceptance of PM Modi.
Challenges faced in five years
Devendra, who became the youngest CM of the state, played the Maratha reservation card even before the Lok Sabha elections. The big challenge in front of Devendra Fadnavis was that the reservation of backwards should not be affected from anywhere due to the card. He did the work of cultivating the forward class without disturbing the quota of the backward class. The upper castes are considered to be the core voters of the BJP.
took big decisions
Last year, Marathas also had a violent agitation regarding reservation. After which a bill to give 16 percent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions was passed to woo the 30 percent Marathas of the state. This was a big political bet of Devendra Fadnavis. Apart from this, Devendra Fadnavis is carrying the agenda of development of Maharashtra. He emphasized on irrigation system to make the state drought free. Due to Jalyukt Shivar, there is a decline in drought in the current year. Apart from this, during his tenure of five years, he emphasized on infrastructure in the metros. During the tenure of Devendra Fadnavis government, the arrest of Chhagan Bhujbal tried to send a bigger message. But on the farmers’ front, the Fadnavis government’s decision not to waive the loans seems un-political.
Became MLA from Nagpur in 1999
Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis was born on 22 July 1970 in a Brahmin family in Nagpur. His father Gangadhar Rao was associated with RSS and Jan Sangh. He was also a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Devendra benefited from the political legacy and political experience he got from his father. He joined ABVP ie Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad during his college studies. Apart from this, he was also associated with the Sangh’s branch in Nagpur. At the age of 21, Devendra Fadnavis was appointed corporator of the Municipal Corporation of Nagpur. In 1997, at the age of 27, he became mayor and was mayor from 1997 to 2001. In the year 1999, he became an MLA from Nagpur and in 2001 he was also the National Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
