Death toll from Kovid in America crosses 7 lakhs, 90 thousand more lives may go by January

Washington. Taking a sigh of relief after the diminishing effect of the Delta variant, the death toll from Kovid-19 in the US has crossed 7 lakhs. In the midst of the epidemic, this sad figure touched the country on Friday. It is being said that the delta variant of Corona spread rapidly due to US citizens not receiving the vaccine. If seen, more people have lost their lives in America than the population of Boston. Recently, President Joe Biden also reprimanded Americans who were refusing to take the vaccine.

According to the news agency AP, it took three and a half months for America to reach 6 lakh to 7 lakh deaths. Debbie Delapaz, nurse manager at UF Health Jacksonville, said, ‘You are losing patients to Kovid and this should not happen.’ He recalled that during the summer when the cases had increased, 8 people were dying of Covid everyday in the hospital. “It is something that should not happen,” he said.

Health workers and doctors are the most worried due to such a large number of deaths. Because the vaccine has been available to all eligible US citizens for 6 months, and the doses provide considerable protection against hospitalization and death. According to the AP, an estimated 70 million US citizens have not been vaccinated, due to which the variant is getting a chance to grow.

good news too
However, there has also been some reduction in the number of average daily deaths in the country. About a week ago, on an average, 2 thousand deaths were happening daily. Now this figure has come down to 1900. There has been a decrease in the number of hospitalized patients at the national level. In the beginning of September, this figure was at 93 thousand, which has now come to around 75 thousand.

Masks and vaccination of more and more people are believed to be the main reason for the decrease in cases. The government’s top infectious disease specialist, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said, ‘It is good news that we are seeing a decrease in cases.’ He said, ‘This is not an excuse to shy away from the need to get the vaccine.’

A University of Washington model has predicted that new cases will rise again, but the safety of the vaccine and the immunity that comes after infection will not allow the virus to cause as many deaths as last winter. However, even after this, the model has predicted that 90 thousand more US citizens could die by January 1, and by that date the total death toll could go up to 7 lakh 88 thousand. The model has calculated that more than half of these deaths could be prevented if everyone wore masks in public places.
