Journey from Sangh Pracharak to Bank Officer Job
Anil Vij was born on 15 March 1953. At an early age, the shadow of the father had risen above the head. Anil’s father was an officer in the Railways. With the passing of his father, the responsibility of raising his two younger brothers and elder sister had fallen on Anil. Anil Vij decided not to get married in view of the responsibilities of the house. He completed his graduation in Science from SD College, Ambala. During this he joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. In 1970, he became the General Secretary of ABVP. After this he also became a pracharak of RSS. But in 1974 he got a job in State Bank of India. He worked as a bank officer for 16 years. But his mind remained elated towards public service.
Quit job, contested election and got victory
The seat of Ambala Kent fell vacant in 1990 due to the election of BJP leader Sushma Swaraj as a Rajya Sabha member. Because of which BJP offered Anil Vij to quit his bank job and contest elections. Anil Vij resigned from his bank job and joined BJP and in 1990 stood in the by-election of Ambala Cantt assembly and won the election for the first time. But a year later, in the 1991 assembly elections, Anil Vij had to face defeat.
Despite this unexpected defeat, Anil Vij’s courage and devotion to the party did not diminish. With all his strength, strength and dedication, he started to strengthen the organization of BJP in Haryana. In view of his responsibilities towards the organization, he soon got a new responsibility. In the year 1991, he became the state president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
Left BJP and won the election as an independent
But later he left BJP. Anil Vij started spending more time among the people of Kent. Keeping the problems of the people of Kent in front of the representatives of the then government. His social service worked to thicken his identity and respect among the people. Anil Vij’s hold got stronger among the people of Kent. This was the reason that in the year 1996, when Anil Vij contested as an independent without the umbrella of any party, he won. Similarly, in the 2000 assembly elections, Anil Vij won the election as an independent.
Returned to BJP in the year 2005
After moving away from BJP, Anil Vij had come a long way on the path of politics. But not much could be done for the service of the public by merely being an MLA. Anil Vij also needed a party and government to complete social work. Especially a party with which his ideology matches. This was the reason that he returned to BJP in the year 2005. But this comeback could not make him win. Anil Vij lost in the assembly elections.
Third victory in the year 2009
But after this, he made a strong comeback and defeated Congress’s strongman Nirmal Singh in the year 2009. This big victory raised the political stature of Anil Vij further. He was elected the Leader of the Legislative Party of the Opposition in the Assembly.
In the 2014 assembly elections, there were a dozen candidates in front of Anil Vij. Congress’s Nirmal Singh was once again in the fray with the strongest claim. But this time too, Anil Vij defeated Nirmal Singh by a huge margin.
Anil Vij is Angad’s foot in Ambala
Ambala district is adjacent to Punjab. Ratan Lal Kataria of BJP is the MP from Ambala Lok Sabha seat. There are 4 assembly seats under Ambala Lok Sabha seat. BJP has control over Ambala Cantt, Ambala City, Narayangarh and Mulana assembly seats. Congress, INLD and JJP are trying to build a tunnel in this impregnable fort of BJP this time.
But BJP has such a Punjabi face in Haryana in the form of Anil Vij, who has a different identity among the people of Ambala Kent due to his simplicity. Now in the assembly elections of the year 2019, Anil Vij would definitely like a hat-trick of victory from Ambala Kent. Anil Vij, who has contested the assembly elections for a total of 7 times, has won five times.
