Target to make 400 railway stations world class
In a letter to the Chairman of the Railway Board, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant wrote – ‘As you already know that the Ministry of Railways has decided to bring private train operators to operate passenger trains and in the first phase 150 trains Is considering taking it under this.’ The target of making 400 railway stations world class is also mentioned in this letter of NITI Aayog.
Empowered Group of Secretaries also suggested
In the letter, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant also mentioned the experience of privatization of 6 airports. He said that similar work can be done for Railways also. He has suggested to form an empowered group of secretaries for this. In this, it has been said to take forward the work under the time bound process by involving the CEO of NITI Aayog, Chairman Railway Board, Secretary Department of Economic Affairs, Secretary Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
MakeMyTrip, IndiGo and SpiceJet show interest
After running the first corporate train in the form of Tejas, now big companies in the tourism sector have also started showing interest in it. MakeMyTrip has sent a proposal to Indian Railways for this. Apart from this, major airlines Indigo and SpiceJet have also shown interest in running private trains by sending proposals to Indian Railways. According to reports, the Railways has also confirmed this.
